John Harrison, it has been said, is one of the
finest makers of violins in the world. His violins, without a doubt, reflect the touch of
a master's hand. They are accurate in dimension in every way. The finest woods are used
and the details are carved to perfection. The beauty of the woods and the craftsmanship are magnified with his personal formula of varnish and aging techniques. But the real accomplishment of his work is announced when his instruments are played. The finest of tone comes forth, balanced and true, the soul of the violin grasps the player and the audience with the desire to have no end to the performance. |

These magnificent instruments are created in John's small shop located at 430 Lake Boulevard, Suite #2, Redding, in Northern California, USA; Telephone (530) 243-4400 John has been making violins since 1982 and has made well over one hundred instruments including violins, violas and cellos. |

The Shop hours are from 9:00 am to 11:30 am and 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. John's primary business is making and selling violins, violas and cellos. He restores and repairs instruments and makes all adjustments to suit individual players. he also offers a selection of fine used instruments. It is always fascinating to stop into John's shop. It is a one room shop upstairs with his work bench and tools at one end. There you will usually find him at work on a new violin. In other parts of the room are stored his fine woods and materials, on the wall hang violins for sale. He always has time to talk and to show you his latest works. |
He is also a musician, willing to play various instruments for you while remarking on their tonal qualities and playability. It is a real joy to see a craftsman who loves his work and that love is reflected in the high quality of the violins he makes. When you leave his shop, you have a good understanding of why the stairway is lined with awards he has won in international competitions for violin makers.
